This story in the on-line edition of the Forward just reflects the nature of the Jewish community. Gone are the days when one could clearly define the community along denominational lines. With the increasing ease with which people can access anything Jewish on the internet, there is less of a need for a synagogue. People can go to Hebrew school via a webcam, get trained for Bar or Bat Mitzvah by Skype, and have a service on line too! There is tremendous competition for new members in synagogues today and this article reflects just one symptom of the problem.
